A Northern Irish man has been banned from alchol after calling the emergency 999 line claiming he was rapper Nicki Minaj and said he'd seen a ghost.
Steven Brown has been outlawed from consuming or even possessing alcohol after he made a series of nuisance calls to emergency services on Christmas Day,reports the Irish Times.
The 23-year-old Brown first drunkenly dialed 999 at 10:15 a.m. to allege that two men were threatening to kill him.
He called back five minutes later to cancel his first call — and then claimed he was hip hop star Nicki Minaj and had a poltergeist in his Crumlin, County Antrim home.
Police arrived at his house and he was arrested for breach of a previous court order which banned him from using the emergency number.
Brown appeared at Belfast High Court on Friday, where prosecutors claimed he was an alcoholic.
"This man is, essentially, a nuisance, which no doubt is a product of his alcoholism. Police have better things to do that cope with these telephone calls,"said Lord Justice Coghlin.
Brown was released on bail of $400 bail and was banned from touching, possessing or consuming booze.
He is also prohibited from dialing 999, except in an emergency, and has a home curfew between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
